On the AppleInsider podcast this week, Apple announces the launch of a new self-repair service in 2022, Apple is releasing SharePlay-compatible apps, Apple Car’s efforts are stepping up, and we’re discussing whether Apple has slowed down software stability. .
Starting in early 2022, users will be able to purchase over 200 repair parts for iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and Mac M1s directly from Apple. It’s an unexpected move from Apple, which appears to respond to the right to repair movement, where many have called on the company to open up more repair options for their devices. Only major parts will be available at launch, such as the iPhone’s battery and displays, but that will always mean more opportunities for users and third-party repair points.
Then a report of Bloomberg says Apple is stepping up its efforts to produce an autonomous electric vehicle. Deciding to pursue a fully autonomous vehicle, it is said that Apple could potentially launch the product in 2025.
Sticking to this year, however, and this week as well, Apple has been promoting new ways for users to connect through SharePlay. This is the feature originally announced at WWDC, but only now available to all iOS 15.1 or iPadOS 15 users. (The Mac will benefit from the “later this fall” feature.)
Besides Apple’s own services like Fitness + and Apple TV +, SharePlay can be used with Paramount +, Showtime, NBA, Twitch and even TikTok.
Also this week, we touch on recent reviews of Apple’s software from eminent leaker, Jon Prosser. In a video citing Steve Jobs, Prosser claims Apple has dropped the issue of software stability. We review the current landscape of Apple platforms and services and compare current experiences with past software performance.
