The deadline is fast approaching to submit your work to the Unreal Engine HMI Design Challenge, with the first 100 submissions receiving a free VIP membership at Car design news.
The Unreal Engine HMI Design Challenge competition challenges designers and enthusiasts to create new designs that revolutionize traditional human-machine interfaces and offer a glimpse into the future of in-vehicle experiences.
CDN and Epic Games are asking contest entrants to use the design toolkit to create an interior that makes the driver feel “adventurous, luxurious, or sporty.”
The toolkit can be downloaded here and there is a detailed overview in this webinar in which experts from Epic Games explain how to use the design toolkit.
Automotive Design News has assembled an elite jury to evaluate your submissions, including:
Dr. Vadim Melnicuk, Senior Software Engineer, HMI at Lotus Cars
Sanya Chadha, HMI UX Lead UI Designer, HMI at Triumph Motorcycles
Enrico Moccia, Head of Mobility Design UX/UI Pininfarina
What are judges looking for?
Judges will assess how well entrants incorporate a refined HMI into their design, while considering the adventure, luxury, or sporty feel to transport passengers in the cockpit.
This project is about creative freedom and will be evaluated on design language only, please ensure this is the focus of your work rather than the implementation of the design.
Who can enter?
Anyone is eligible to submit their HMI concepts, regardless of background or design experience. Whether you’re an architect, artist or gameplay designer by trade, this is a fantastic opportunity to have your concepts reviewed by design executives from some of the world’s most innovative automakers.
While we encourage entrants from diverse backgrounds, we want to ensure that all entries are judged on an equal footing. To this end, all entrants will be required to use the same design templates for the contest.
What can you win?
The possibility of having your concept developed with a designer from the jury
Winning concepts will be featured in the prestigious automotive industry book Car Design Review
One-year subscription to Car Design News and the semi-annual print magazine Interior Motives
The deadline for registration is March 31, 2022
