If you know where to scratch in each chapter of Stray, you’ll not only be able to leave your mark on the world in the most cat-like way possible, but also tick all the boxes to earn the Territory Trophy on your journey. This is easier said than done, as some chapters present you with lots of obvious, possibly even story-related places to sink your claws into, but others only feature a single point of scratch and if you ignore it, you’ll play through the chapter again for another chance to rip it.
To help point you in the right places, we’ve got details on where to scratch in each chapter of Stray, and while this list isn’t exhaustive, it will point out more than enough options to clear that assignment. If you want to scratch in style, we’ve also got a roundup of the best Stray mods on PC to give your adventure a new (maybe cursed) look.
How to scratch in Stray
To scratch in Stray, look for objects such as trees, carpets, walls, and doors that feature an interaction prompt. When you see one, press the button and your cat will take the position, then mash the trigger buttons to go to town with your claws. Sometimes this interaction will last for a few seconds before automatically ending, such as if you scratch a door and receive a response, while in other situations it will continue indefinitely until you back off. Try to rack up at least a few seconds of claw before manually quitting, to make sure this action counts towards your progress.
Stray Scratch – Inside the Wall
After jumping up the two steps at the beginning of the chapter, scratch the tree trunk to your left.
Stray Scratch – Ghost Town
Once you’ve dropped the blue paint can to break the window and get inside the building, drop down and scratch one of the carpets in the first room.
Stray Scratch – The Dish
Inside the room with the computer terminal, you’ll find another carpet that you can scratch in the main living room.
Stray Scratch – The Slums
After talking with the Guardian and calming the robots, enter the garage with the meditating robots and scratch the carpet. There are plenty of other opportunities to scratch in this chapter, including the door to enter Elliot’s programming as part of the quest to find the Stray security code, and Momo’s apartment before deliver all the Stray notebooks to advance the storyline.
Stray Scratch – Roofs
From the beginning of the chapter, there is a mat in front of you to scratch.
Stray Scratch – The Slums Part 2
As soon as you return to Momo’s apartment, there’s a rug you can scratch straight up, and you have all the same opportunities in The Slums as on your previous visit, including scratching the door to Elliot Programming so that you can come in and deliver the lost poncho. This is your last chance to collect Stray Energy Drink cans and find all Stray Score locations for Morusque, so be sure to check out these collectibles before moving on.
Stray Scratch – Impasse
Inside Doc’s lab, there’s scratching wallpaper next to the desk with the Defluxor on it.
Stray Scratch – The Sewers
After hacking both panels to open the large door, head straight up the stairs then look for a piece of cardboard on the floor to the left.
Stray Scratch – Antivillage
Near the tree branches on the lowest level, there’s a couch you can scratch next to one of the Stray Memories. You will find a number of other planks and mats as you investigate the tree house.
Stray Scratch – Midtown
As you pass Peacemaker 22106 and up the stairs in Midtown, the alley immediately to the left with a green sign has a door you can scrape at the end. There is also a couch in the open living area just across the driveway. Half of the wandering badge locations are found during this chapter, so don’t overlook those opportunities when they arise, and you can still do so after stealing the wandering atomic battery.
Stray Scratch – Jail
When you find the truck in the yard to access the door opening towards the end of the chapter, scratch the side of it.
Stray Scratch – Control Room
When working with B-12 to open the door to the control room, you must scrape the inside of the control panel once it is opened by interacting with the entry pad.
Congratulations, you found (and dragged your claws over) all of the Stray Scratch locations to earn the Territory Trophy.
