Workstead unveils interior design of One Prospect Park lobby

Two Years of Preparation, Workstead’s Luxury Interiors for Historic One Prospect Park West Development in Brooklyn Unveiled

More than two years after Workstead first unveiled the lavish design concept for its first residential building, One Prospect Park West, the entire evocative atmosphere of the luxury building can now be felt through its new reception hall, which pays homage to the site’s 1920s heritage.

Workstead interior design for One Prospect Park West

Built as a clubhouse and social space in 1925 by the Knights of Columbus (a worldwide Catholic fraternal order), the building once housed a ballroom, restaurant, bowling alley and indoor swimming pool to ensure that the we could spend a roaring moment, a few steps from Parc de la Perspective. Nearly a century later, the condominium, which was developed by Sugar Hill Properties, makes a similar statement by setting a new standard for luxury living in Brooklyn’s otherwise sleepy Park Slope neighborhood (the penthouse comes to sell for $ 6.95 million – a figure unheard of in the region).

In this context, the hall of the building sets an appropriate tone. Workstead has created a sculptural interior that recalls a historic sense of proportion. 16-foot ceilings and a distinctive arched entrance, a feature that resonates in each of the apartments above, are matched with limestone floors, a shiny bronze-toned vestibule, and marble thresholds. Likewise, a burl wood front desk references pre-war grandeur, but is assuredly seen through a modern lens. In the adjacent living room, paneled walls bring a graphic visual quality to the space, while vintage collectible furniture, items from Maison Gérard, and upholstery from Zak and Fox bring a welcoming tactility to the space. “In approaching the design of each of the spaces, whether common areas or residences, we wanted to honor the building’s pre-war character in a way that still provides residents with modern amenities,” says Ryan Mahoney, company partner. “The result provides a collection of stylish and functional spaces that are understated yet grandiose, contemporary yet handcrafted for today’s laid-back lifestyle. Arched Giallo Siena marble openings in the lobby create a spectacular entrance, unmistakably Workstead, and an ocher living room features impressive 16-foot ceilings designed to remain intimate.

“While the first-floor lobby and living room set the tone for the development, we echoed the visual language established in these common spaces within the residences that feature large arches of simple crown moldings,” he continues. “We designed our Park lighting collection to harmonize with the interiors of One Prospect Park West to refer to the pre-war design language of architecture. As our largest residential project to date, incorporating our lighting into the lobby and residences design creates an environment that truly reflects our brand. ‘

With many building closings being finalized and moves taking place in December 2021, One Prospect Park West will officially celebrate its completion in early 2022. §
